COVID-19 and Workers’ Compensation: What Employers Need to Know

The Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California (WCIRB) has released a recording and presentation handout for its recent webinar, COVID-19 and Workers’ Compensation – What Employers Need to Know.

During this webinar, Brian Gray, WCIRB Director of Classification Administration and Education, discussed proposed rule changes that have been submitted to the Insurance Commissioner for approval and that help California employers face unprecedented challenges during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The proposed rule changes include:

  • Exclusion from experience rating of workers’ compensation claims directly arising from a diagnosis of COVID-19
  • Reclassification of employees whose modified duties meet the definition of Clerical Office Employees
  • Exclusion of payments made to non-working employees
