As aerial drones, formally known as Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs), are becoming increasingly common and used in a variety of industries, we thought we’d describe the classification procedures surrounding UASs so you understand how to properly classify these operations.
The Federal Aviation Administration distinguishes UASs as small or large, which is based on combined payload weight at takeoff. Small is less than 55 pounds, and large is 55 pounds or more.
